Event makeup has a specific brief that's distinct from both everyday makeup and bridal makeup. The key objectives are: longevity, photography performance, and looking great under varied lighting conditions typically venue lighting (which can be very warm and dim), dance floor lighting (flashing, colourful), and outdoor nighttime photography (flash-heavy).

The most popular prom look I'm creating right now is a statement eye paired with fresh, luminous skin. Deep copper or bronze cut crease, wispy lashes, dewy base, and a barely there nude lip. Deep emeralds, midnight blues, rich amethysts jewel toned eyeshadow is having a massive moment for formal events. When paired with a glowing base and a neutral or complementary lip, these looks are genuinely stunning in photographs. If you've been nervous about colour, prom is the night to try it.
A coordinated rose or berry palette across eyes, lips, and cheeks creates a sophisticated, editorial effect that photographs beautifully and works across a huge range of outfit colours from classic black to bold red to dusty blue. It's one of my favourite looks to create because it always surprises clients who thought they wanted something more complex.
For corporate galas, charity events, and award nights, the brief is slightly different from prom. The look needs to be polished, intentional, and confident not youthful and experimental, but sophisticated and refined. These are events where you'll be meeting colleagues, photographed professionally, and potentially in front of an audience. The makeup should communicate that you take the occasion and yourself seriously.
My most popular gala looks include a sculpted base with a warm toned highlight, a classic smoky eye in taupe or charcoal, and a bold lip in deep red or rich berry. The combination reads as elevated and timeless without trying too hard.
Graduation season in Atlanta means Georgia Tech, Emory, Georgia State, Spelman, Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, Kennesaw State and dozens of high schools across the metro area all celebrating at once. Graduation makeup needs to look incredible both outdoors in the ceremony sun and indoors at the celebration dinner or party that follows.
